How to Throw a Virtual Fall or Thanksgiving Party

So most schools are still distant learning and the holidays are coming up! I know we are all used to throwing fun Fall or Thanksgiving parties in our classroom but we still do that virtually! Here are some fun that you can do with your students online!

Here's how to throw a virtual or in-person fall and Thanksgiving party. There are 8 activities that you can easily implement!

You can use these same ideas whether you are virtual or in-person! Let’s get this (virtual) party started!

Parent Read Aloud

Do you remember the time you asked your parent or saw your friend’s parent read a book to the class. I do. I was so excited to see my mom in my classroom to read. And she read my favorite book! Ask parents to read their favorite fall or Thanksgiving book to the class. This could be done via Zoom or in person.

Get your student moving by going on a scavenger hunt. Have them search for fall colors or their favorite items. They can share what they find on Zoom or go on a hunt in the classroom. A printable version is included.

Plan Virtual Tours

So, I introduced virtual tours to my students a few days ago and they LOVED it! They love exploring different places they wouldn’t normally have access to. They like that they are in control of the tour and don’t have to follow the teacher!

Directed Drawing

My students love to directed drawings! They get to draw a specific object with precision and gain confidence in their own abilities to draw. Have your students draw a fall object, such as a scarecrow or pumpkin.

Are you familiar with Art Hub for Kids on YouTube? They have a whole playlist on fall directed drawings that you can show and have students follow along from their desk or computer screens!

Write a Class Book

Students love sharing information about their families and friends. Why not incorporate their love for reading and writing by creating a e-book or class book? Have students share photos or draw pictures of their family. This is also a great way to build community and celebrate your student’s families!

Turkey Help! The Game

Most of my students have not played Hangman before (hello, iPad!) This game is similar to Hangman but uses a turkey trying not to be anyone’s dinner! Students have to guess the letters and figure out the sentence. If they guess the letter incorrectly, the turkey moves closer to the cage!

This game was another class favorite!

This or That? The Movement Version!

This or That is a popular get-to-know you game! Students decide which two options they like more. To add a bit of movement, to show which they like move, they squat or wave.

Freeze Dance

You can’t throw a party without dancing! Have students play freeze dance in the classroom or online! I recently did a freeze dance using the link below. It already incorporates the stop/freeze parts so I didn’t have to press the pause and play button.

I don’t have time to plan a virtual party!

No worries! I got you covered! I have created digital slides that include all the activities above. All you have to do is pick and choose what activities you want to incorporate into your fall or Thanksgiving party.
