First Grade End of the Year Review Math Centers

The year is coming to a close, and it’s time to review the math concepts you taught since the beginning of the year. It seems daunting, but I have a list of interactive activities that you can use to keep your students engaged and require little to low prep time. These activities are a win-win for students and teachers.

Here are some summer-themed activities to review math and still foster math talk and collaboration.

2D and 3D Shapes Attribute Match Up

In Kindergarten, we want students to know the attributes of 2D and 3D shapes using vocabulary words like sides, corners, faces, vertices, and edges. For these activities, students spin and cover the shape that matches the attribute described.

Double Plus One

Students learn how to use doubles to solve addition and subtraction number sentences. For example, if they know 5+5=10, they should see 5+6=11 because it’s the double plus one. This activity will help them master this skill.

Put It In Order

Knowing the order of numbers will help students compare numbers using greater than and less than, but it also will help them gain proficiency in understanding how place value works. Students put four numbers in order from least to greatest for this activity.

Roll and Show The Time

This is a partner activity. Students roll the die and move that many spaces. They will read and show the time using a watch!

 Add Them Up

Students roll a die three times for this activity and add the numbers up to write the sum. They can draw a picture or pick a strategy to show how they solved it. For students that still need it, they can use ten frames.
