Make Literacy Practice More Fun with BINGO Dabbers!

I’ve found a simple way to spice up my literacy centers…dabbers! That marker-thingy you use when you play BINGO. Sometimes all it takes is introducing a different tool to get students excited about reviewing skills they’ve practiced before.

One of my favorite no-prep literacy worksheets is Dab It. Students say the picture’s name, dab, and write the correct answer.

These worksheets review five foundational literacy skills:

  • Uppercase and lowercase letter recognition
  • Beginning sounds
  • Medial sounds
  • Ending sounds
  • CVC words

Since students are identifying sounds and writing words, they’re practicing multiple literacy skills in one activity. The simple format also makes it easy for students to work independently once they’ve learned the routine. They are practicing letter ID, correct letter formation, isolating phonemes, and decoding.

I love using Dab It during literacy centers, but you can also use it for independent practice or as morning work. The activities require very little prep. Just print and go!

Don’t have BINGO dabbers? No worries. Students can color the correct answer with crayons or markers instead. The learning stays the same, but the activities are still fun and engaging.

If your students love hands-on learning, adding BINGO dabbers to your literacy block is an easy way to bring a little excitement to your classroom. Sometimes a small change, like using a new tool, is all it takes to increase engagement and make phonics practice something your students look forward to!
